Demise widely condoled
Jammu, May 5: Senior separatist leader and Chairman Tehreek-e-Hurriyat Muhammad Ashraf Sehrai passes away at Government Medical College Jammu, Sources said.
The incarcerated separatist leader was shifted from Kot Bhalwal Jail to GMC Jammu yesterday after his health deteriorated.
A doctor at GMC said that Sehrai passed away on Wednesday morning. He said Sehrai was suffering from multiple ailments.
Muhammad Ashraf Sehrai had been booked under the Public Safety Act (PSA) and shifted to Jammu Kot Bhalwal Jail last year.
The demise of Muhammad Ashraf Sehrai was widely condoled.
Mehbooba Mufti: Taking to her Twitter handle, the former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir Mehbooba Mufti said, “Deeply saddened to know about Ashraf Sehrai sahab’s sudden demise. Like him countless political prisoners & other detainees from J&K continue to be jailed purely for their ideologies & thought process. In today’s India one pays a price with his life for dissent.
She further said that the least GOI can do ‘in such dangerous circumstances is to immediately release these detainees on parole so that they return home to their families.
Apni Party: Apni Party President Syed Mohammad Altaf Bukhari expressed deep shock and grief over the demise of Mohammad Ashraf Sehrai, Chairman Tehreek-e-Hurriyat.
In a condolence message issued here, Bukhari extended solidarity with the bereaved family and prayed for eternal peace to the departed soul. “I pray to almighty Allah to grant Jannat to Sehrai Saheb, and give courage to his family to bear this huge loss. Apni Party stands in solidarity with Sehrai Saheb’s family at this difficult period of time,” he added.
Sajad Lone: “Ashraf Sehrai Sahib passes away. A long political career comes to an end. Ashraf Sahib struggled all his life. A Jamaat ideologue. When I was 19 I bumped into him and He told me Tel ur father —kitney haseen hain terey lab ki galiyan dekey bemaza na hua. May Allah grant him Jannat,” Sajad Lone Tweeted.
Imam-e-Hai: Khateeb Jaima Masjid Syed Ahmed Syed while expressing shock over the demise of Sehrai said that a long chapter in History came to an end. He said Sehrai was a charismatic personality who always stood for the people. He expressed sympathies with the bereaved family.
Abid Ansari: Senior politician and Peoples Conference leader Molvi Abid Ansari in a message said that he was deeply saddened to learn about the passing away of Muhamamd Ashraf Sehrai Sahab. He was a noted educationist and a harbinger of communal unity. I share the pain and grief of his family and stand by them as they mourn this inconsolable loss. May Allah Subhana Watalla accept his good deeds and grant his soul in highest place in Jannah.
Islam Tanzeem Azadi: Islam Tanzeem Azadi president Abdul Samad Inqalabi while expressing deep sorrow overt the demise of Muhammad Ashraf Sehrai said that his struggle for the people of Kashmir will be written in golden words in the annals of Kashmir history.
Maulana Ghulam Rasool Hami: Karwan- e- Islami patron Alama Sheikh Ghulam Rasool Hami expressed his heartfelt condolence on the demise of Tehreek e Hurriyat chairman Muhammad Ashraf Sehrai and extended his deepest sympathies with the bereaved family in this hour of grief. Hami prayed for the highest standards in janah for the departed soul and prayed to Almighty to help tge family members of Sehrai to bear this great loss.
EJAC: Employees Joint Action Committee Jammu Kashmir (EJAC) offered its deep condolences on the sad demise of Tehreek i Hurriyat chairman Mohammad Ashraf Sehrai. In this regard, a virtual condolence meeting of the EJAC leadership was held today under the chairmanship of its President Fayaz Ahmad Shabnam. In the meeting all the members paid rich tributes to Sehrai and termed his death a big loss to the entire society. The leaders described him as a noble, pious and kind hearted soul who spent his entire life in the service of people. While expressing grief and sorrow, they said that every soul has to drink from the cup of death and has to bid farewell to this ephemeral world. (KNT)
