Government forces on Wednesday early morning launched cordon and search operation in many villages of Shopian district of south Kashmir.
Reports said that many villages, including Nagbal ,badigam, Turkwangam urpora , maldera, Heff, Shirmal, suga , imamsahib, Kargam, Kanigam, barbugh, Homhona, and many other localities were cordoned off in Imamsahib area of the district early Tuesday by 44 RR, 62 RR, 1 RR of Army, 14th BN CRPF and Special Operations Group ImamSahib and Zainapora.
They said that forces launched searches after laying a siege to the villages.
Sources further said that the crackdown came barely a week after a sarpanch was killed in the area following which some videos surfaces of militant threatening political workers.
