Srinagar, July 8: Four militants were killed in twin gunfights that raged in two parts of South Kashmir.
The gunfights broke out in Pucchal area of Pulwama and Zodar village of Kulgam. Two militants were killed in Pulwama while two at Kulgam.
Defense sources said that at Zodar, Kulgam, joint team of Anantnag based Rashtriya Rifles, police and CRPF launched multiple mobile vehicle check points after receiving inputs regarding movement of militants in the area.
They said that a white Maruti Car was asked to stop
for checking. The militants on seeing the troops started firing & ran towards adjoining forested area. The area was immediately cordoned off and fire fight ensued. In the joint operation two militants, Shahbaaz Ahmad Shah of JeM and Nasir Ayub Pandit of LeT were neutralized.
“One AK-47 & one pistol with large quantity of ammunition was recovered from them.”
Shahbaz was active since July 2020 while Nasir had recently joined militant ranks.
In another operation, based on specific intelligence of Jammu Kashmir Police troops of Panzgom based Rashtriya Rifles, & CRPF laid cordon around a built up area in Puchhal, Pulwama.
Militants lobbed grenades on the cordon party and tried to escape. However, troops immediately retaliated and foiled the escape bid.
They said that call for surrender was made but militants retaliated by firing & lobbing grenades at the security forces. In the ensuing gunfight, two militants of LeT were killed.
They have been identified as Kifayat Sofi and Inayat Ahmad Dar of Pulwama district. One AK-47and one pistol and other war like stores were recovered from the encounter site. (KNT)
